The raincoats prior to the 2018 marching season were well over 20 years old. They may even be older since some parents swear they are the same raincoats they wore when they were in marching band in the 90s.
They were no longer water-resistant and didn’t protect from cold. We had to let them dry out for days before they could be properly put away (otherwise we had to deal with mold).
Not to mention that the green color (which doesn’t match the uniform) didn’t age well and didn’t hold up to the abuse of use with instruments.
The new raincoats are water-resistant and have a Thinsulate lining for the cold weather. They take advantage of improvements in materials to make them lighter and last longer.
The black color will hold up to instrument wear and looks great on the field. They look great with the uniforms!
