Music libraries can grow over time. For us, we’ve been growing for a few decades and the file cabinets were overflowing! The band librarian has a daunting task preparing music for band camp with the existing system.

In 2020, BBOP purchased the first section of a new library system that will modernize how we store and retrieve music. In 2021, BHS purchased the last section of the library allowing us to continue the music modernization process.

The modernization process consists of reviewing each piece of music. It must be sorted to find the originals and if any parts are missing.  Once that is done each title must be placed in a Google database.  Search items include title, composer, publisher, last time performed, categories such as marching band, orchestra, jazz band, or concert band.  The music is then assigned a number and placed in a hanging file. 

The goal is to eliminate all file cabinets over the next few summers.
