About my class
I teach a variety of classes at both the middle and high school in our district. Our students are diverse both racially and socioeconomically. Our high school ensembles are student driven; I teach a leadership seminar to our student leaders every summer during our band camp. We have amazing kids and parents who work extremely hard to make our program function. Our band parents have diligently fundraised the past five years to replace ancient raincoats for our students last year. Our students willingly give back to our community. In the past year our students have read books, talked about the importance of school, assisted beginning band students and performed in our elementary schools. We perform in an area nursing home on Veteran’s Day for a pinning ceremony for residents. We returned there this year to perform some Christmas carols on our instruments. Additionally, we support our community every Memorial Day during our parade and ceremonies. Our mission statement written by our students reads as follows: WE, THE BEDFORD BEARCAT BAND, ARE A PROUD ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO WILLINGLY SERVE THE COMMUNITY WITH OUR SPIRIT AND PASSION FOR MUSIC. WE WILL SET A TREND OF EXCELLENCE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS AND LEAVE A LEGACY ON AND OFF THE FIELD. We are looking to grow the size of our organization, but need to increase our instrument inventory in order to do so.
What we need
Many of our instruments are in fair condition and are in constant need of repair. A strong ensemble requires a solid foundation. This foundation begins with the low brass section. We would like to continue to add instruments to our low brass section, so that as we start students at the elementary level, we have enough quality instruments for our students to perform on to represent our community. We need tubas, baritones and trombones. We appreciate your support.
